D. A. V. SANSKRITI SCHOOL
(an overview)

Mission: To connect children to the Universal Living Values of Sanatan Dharma, and live life as real “humane” human beings as per the authentic wisdom of the Vedas.

Objectives :To impart Vedic values to students (age 3 – 18 years), mentoring them with a holistic approach to develop their optimum physical, mental-moral-spiritual, academical & emotional potential and provide the linguistic and cultural connectivity to the Vedic Heritage in a playful learning environment.

DAV Sanskriti School (DAVSS) has been serving the community since 1994, connecting East and West to bring a blend of both to our children (age group: 3 to 18 years). As they grow in the USA, a land of opportunities, we strive to get them acquainted to the time-tested Universal Living Values of our ancient Indian culture

Below is a glimpse of the Universal principles of Dharma (righteous living) from Manusmriti, taught to students:

धृति: क्षमा दमोऽस्‍तेयं शौचमिन्‍द्रियनिग्रह: । धीर्विद्या सत्‍यमक्रोधो दशकं धर्मलक्षणम्‌ ।।

Dhritih kshamā damo's‍teyam Shaucham-in‍driya-nigrahah. Dhīr-vidyā sat‍yam-akrodho dashakam dharma-lakshanam‌.

1. Dritih, patience; 2. Kshamā, forgiveness, compassion; 3. Dama, self-control fortitude; 4. Asteya, non-stealing; 5. Saucha, purity (mind-body-spirit & thoughts- words-actions); 6. Indriya-nigraha, self-discipline, control over senses; 7. Dhī, wisdom, to engage in righteous actions - thoughts, words & physical actions; 8. Vidyā, true knowledge; 9. Satya, truth; 10. Akrodha, giving up anger.

The precepts of social and personal discipline from Patanjali Yoga philosophy:

1.0 Yama: 1.1 Ahimsa (no hurt to any living being); 1.2 Satya (truth); 1.3 Asteya (never steal/cheat); 1.4 Brahmacharya (moderation, no lust/craving); 1.5. Aparigraha (non-hoarding)

2.0 Niyama: 2.1 Saucha (purity of mind-body-spirit); 2.2 Santosha (Be content); 2.3 Tapah (develop endurance); 2.4 Svādhyāya (study of the scriptures); 2.5 Ishvar- Pranidhāna (surrender to God, the laws of nature)

Teaching these values, we aim to deepen the roots of our children in the rich Indian culture and empower them to stick to righteousness throughout life.

The playful learning environment helps them in bonding with like-minded friends and mentors, provide firm anchors to consolidate family ties, and in turn transmit these core values of this rich cultural heritage to future generations …and in the spirit of “sarve bhavantu sukhinah” strive for universal wellbeing.

Meditation upon the Gayatri mantra aims to focus their energies for developing an enlightened mind “Dhiyo yo nah prachodayāt” to engage in noble thoughts and actions.

Overall objective is to uplift the physical, mental-moral-spiritual, and social standards of students and make them proud of their roots as well as great ambassadors of Sanatan Dharma.

To provide our children the linguistic and cultural connectivity to their Vedic Heritage in a fun-loving way.
